Teifi James is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon in Halifax, West Yorkshire. He trained at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington and studied internal medicine before working in Windsor for 3 years with Jack Kanski and Richard Packard. As a Registrar in Yorkshire he spent 3 years as a Wellcome Trust Fellow researching Behçet’s Disease. In 1993 he became the youngest ever member of the Council of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Teifi specialises in uveitis, scleritis and ocular inflammatory disease but also has a general ophthalmology practice. He has performed over twelve thousand cataract operations, with over five hundred such procedures in uveitic eyes. 

Since 2004 Teifi has also run The EyeBag® Company promoting The MGDRx EyeBag® the re-usable warm compress for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction. Apart from being a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Teifi is also a Fellow of the Royal college of Surgeons in Edinburgh, a Fellow of both Royal Colleges of Physicians in London and Edinburgh and a Fellow of the British Contact Lens Association. He is an Honorary Visiting Professor at Cardiff University and until recently has been the President of the North of England Ophthalmological Society. Teifi holds 18 patents and has successfully commercialised his own IP.
