Benno Ure, MD

Benno Ure was born 1955. He is Surgeon-in-Chief and Professor of Pediatric Surgery at Hannover Medical School and Chief at the Children´s Hospital Bult in Hannover, Germany. Benno Ure is the Vice Chief Executive Officer of the University and the Speaker of the University Chairmen. In addition, he is the Vice Chairman of the Scientific Board of DKV, a German Health Insurance.

Benno Ure was President of the EUPSA (European Pediatric Surgeons Association) in 2015-2017 and is Past President of the IPEG (International Pediatric Endosurgery Group). He is also board member of the International Pediatric Surgical Research. Benno Ure is honorary member of numerous international organizations including the American Association of Pediatric Surgeons and the Académie Francaise de Chirurgie. Since 2001, he is the Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Pediatric Surgery and serves in the editorial board of numerous other journals.

In addition to his clinical work, Benno Ure is deeply involved in research and is the author of over 250 journal articles, 50 book chapters and 4 books. His special interests are minimally invasive techniques, neonatal immunology, clinical pathways and ethics.
Benno Ure was the president of a German non-governemental humanitarian organization for many years and served in numerous disaster regions. He was founding member of the European Master Degree of Humanitarian Assistance and is member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict at the University Bochum. Benno Ure served also as Member of the Humanitarian Board of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Benno Ure is deeply involved in music and playing the piano. He is the author of books on music that have developed into bestsellers and he moderates classical music stage programs. Benno Ure has been married to his wife Yvonne for 29 years. They have 2 children.
