Dr Sue Protheroe MRCP MD FRCPCH

Dr Sue Protheroe MRCP MD FRCPCH was appointed as a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist at Birmingham Women’s & Children’s Hospital NHS Trust in 1999.
Sue graduated from the University of Bristol in 1986. She first came to Birmingham as a Clinical Research fellow in 1993 in the Liver Unit and gained her MD in nutritional research in 1999 supported by an Action Research Training Fellowship and the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.
She has an interest in intestinal failure and Home Parenteral Nutrition and was a principal research investigator on clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety of GLP-2 in children and infants.
Sue is recent past President of the British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (BSPGHAN) and was previously has Chair of the Education Committee (2009-2011) and Convenor (2011- 14).
Sue has recently been Chair of the RCPCH College Speciality Advisory Committee (CSAC) for the speciality.
Sue currently Chairs the NHS-England Clinical Reference Group, responsible for specialised and highly specialised commissioning of services for Paediatric Medicine in England.
