Professor Gearhart is the director of Pediatric Urology at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center with a specialist interest in bladder exstrophy and disorders of sexual development as well as urinary tract malignancy. He graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and trained both in general surgery and urology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. This was followed by further training in paediatric surgery and paediatric urology at the Alder Hey hospital in Liverpool under the great J Herbert Johnston FRCS. He is the author of over 350 scientific publications in both basic science and clinical research. His current work includes smooth muscle interaction and better delineation of pelvic anatomy in classic bladder exstrophy using modern imaging techniques.
